NEA Jobs Bill

K-12 Public Education has recently been given breathing room from Congress. The jobs bill was signed into law yesterday. The funds will be distributed in September.

This is a huge win! It has been nearly nine years since public education has seen such support. There is still much work to, but due to local NEA affiliates and our individual members Congress is listening. This truly is a time for the power of one.

The single, one phone call made to Senators and Representatives is what truly made the difference. The member grassroots lobbying caused Congress to realize, "Hey, we need educators and we cannot do it with overcrowded classrooms. Less does not equal more."

These are exciting times to be in education. Remember, if you call them, they will listen.

Education Jobs Bill

The US Senate made a precedented decision today for education and all state budgets in these hard times. They approved the education jobs bill and the medicaid bill. The Filibuster was stopped by a vote of 61-34. The vote was bipartisan and invested in the future of our country.

The NCAE attributed to over 13000 emails and phone calls to the Senate. This was the largest number of "grassroots" lobbyest out of all 50 states. Today, NC and the NEA made a difference.

Let it be noted that this bill will save over 5000 educator jobs in NC alone. This bill provides more money towards education jobs than that of Race to the Top (RTTT) with less stipulations. We are keeping teachers in the classrooms, bus drivers on the road, custodians in our schools, and cafeteria workers on the line.

Please notify your Senator and thank them for their support.
